Tell me why little girl, tell me
Why do you sit alone? Tell me why little girl, tell me Why do you sit alone? You were the hottest chick in high school No one could get you on the phone You were hot and you were wild You burned up all of Main Street You were hot and you were wild You burned up all of Main Street Anytime I seen you You had men at your feet Chorus Well its too late baby now Baby its too late Well its too late baby now, Baby its too late It's much too late now Baby, that's your mistake What's this I hear now You done got yourself a child What's this I hear now You done got yourself a child What else you expect girl Runnin' hot and runnin' wild Now there's no need to tell me Tell me why you sit alone Now there's no need to tell me Tell me why you sit alone Why no one calls you Or talks to you on the phone |
Too Late Now
Notes
This song was written when I was in my Stray Cats phase, hence terms like 'hottest click' and 'high school'. It's that high school scenario where everyone is having fun and it's all innocent until the girl gets pregnant, then things change and the innocence is lost. |

Still a favourite whenever we play live. It has that infectious beat that just makes you want to get up and dance. |

| 4. | Feel So Good | Play | Feel So Good
I'd climb any mountain, you ask me to.
I'd even swim the seven seas Do it just for you. That's the way I feel about you, That's the way you make me feel. I'm in love, oh yeah Lord, I'm in love. Do you remember, that day we met. I sure do, ain't no way I could forget. Well the day was cold, And the house was too. But I had no trouble keepin' warm with you. Made love in the morning, Right through to the night. We were determined, Just to get it right. We're still together, Right to this day. And I hope and pray good Lord, That's the way it stays. I'm in love with you, In every way. And I'll care for you, Each and every day. It's alright with me, If it's alright with you. I'm in love with you And the things you do. |
Feel So Good
Notes
Written on the road. It was a lick I came up with while sound-checking and I developed it from there. I guess the pace of a lot of the songs here will tell you how we felt around this time - hit town, play, hit another town! |

| 5. | I Don't Know Your Name | Play | I Don't Know Your Name
A young girl is crying,
On a busy city sidewalk. Yet nobody's taking time, To stop with her and talk. If this is you and me, Then brother I don't know your name. An old man has fallen, Beneath his heavy load. Yet nobody's calling, Any help to his side of the road. If this is you and me, Then brother I don't know your name. An old woman's bending, To pick food up off the ground. A car it comes speeding, And it knocks her down. Yet nobody's weeping, They just pass on by and say. If the car it hadn't killed her, Sure the hunger would have anyway. |

I met this guy in Tralee, Co. Kerry, who told me he was a songwriter. When I went to the toilet he followed me and 'recited' the words of this song he had written. I thought they were great lyrics so I got some paper and wrote them down. Much later I ended up putting music to them and they ended up being this song. |

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen
I come in about half past ten That baby of mine she'd been doing it again She said move it on over Rock it on over Move over little dog, the big ol' dog is movin' in She told me not to mess around But I done let that deal go down She said move it on over Rock it on over Move over little dog, the big ol' dog is movin' in She changed the lock on my back door Now my key won't fit no more She said, move it on over Rock it on over Move over little dog, the big ol' dog is movin' in |

Notes
Another song with Pierre on piano. It was so funny when we recorded this - three long-haired guys belting away for all we were worth, and this bald 58-year-old guy trying to make himself heard on an acoustic piano. As you can hear he wasn't put off at all. It must also have been quite a funny sight for the audience. |

I went down to the local record store,
And I asked the man behind the counter For some blues. And he said Ain't I seen you somewhere before? I said Yes, I've been down, I've been down so many times before. Said I've been down, Said I've been down. So many times before. Well she's gone and left me, Like all the others did before. Never said goodbye, Just packed her bags and headed for the door. She ain't coming back, Good Lord I know that now for sure. But I kept hoping for a long time, She might change her mind. Change her mind, Change her mind. And come back to me. A modern liberated lady, Don't want my ideas no more. Don't worry about the kids, she said. We can leave them with the woman next door. Let's go out and have a good time, That's what everyone else is doing. And it sure looks to me, Like it works out fine. But there'll come a time, There'll come a time You'll see you were wrong. I went down to the local record store, And I asked the man behind the counter For some blues. He said, Stop! Ain't I seen you somewhere before? I said, Yes, I've been down. I've been down many times before. |

Notes
This was one of the first ballads I ever wrote. Just prior to playing a Festival in Belgium a guy asked me if I'd play this song - as he had just broken up with his girl-friend and this had been their special song. As a songwriter it's quite something to think you've touched someone's life like that with your song, so I guess it was a poignant moment for both of us that night. |

Notes
I had heard a group called The Inmates play this song and loved it. Over the years we had developed our 'own' version of it, only to find out later it was practically the same as the way Grand Funk Railroad played it - who I had never heard of at the time! |

This show was broadcast direct on Radio Alligator as well, and I wonder if the people at home listening on their radios moved the furniture and boogied, because the people in the hall sure seemed to be having a good time. I guess the Rory Gallagher influence is fairly obvious on this song. |

Is there a band in the whole world that hasn't at one stage or another played a Chuck Berry riff? After having played our hearts and souls out for a couple of hours, getting back up to play a rock 'n' roll medley was just pure pleasure. |

I arrived at the Dave Fanning Show to play a blues and we ended up chatting for over 20 minutes, covering everything from our European adventures to what an underrated songwriter Rory Gallagher was. They cut straight to a commercial break after my 'walk-out' and the guys in the control room had a great laugh about the song and my exit. They said it was the first time someone walked out on the show. |

Would you love me tomorrow
Like you say you love me now Would you love me, would you love me tomorrow Like you say you love me now When the flames of our flesh have stopped burning And the fire of our love has cooled down Too many times I've given too much Baby, give me your love to me in return Too many times I've given too much Baby, give me your love in return Give me your mind and your heart But please don't leave me with a love that burns And don't use me as your fool 'Cause my heart can't stand another lie Please don't use me, don't use me as your fool Baby, 'cause my heart can't stand another lie And if you can't love me tomorrow Please leave me now in my room to cry |

Notes
My other all time favourite guitarist is Peter Green. Strangely enough I found solace in the pain of Peter's singing and playing during a rather difficult period in my own life, and I recorded this song around that time. We recorded it in a very small studio to try and get that 'old' feel off it. |

This was actually the B-side of our first single, and I think our bass player at that time genuinely though he was a 'cowboy', so we decided to do this song and we let him play harmonica on it. He was so happy. A DJ at RTE listened to it and played it and soon all the DJ's were playing it. It got more airplay than the A-side. |

It was a hot summer night,
At the high school dance. I was looking for some action, Looking for romance. Then I saw a little Queenie, Strutting down the hall. She was lookin' kinda cute, She was kinda small. She knew just how to shake her hips. She knew just how to pout her red sweet lips. I knew I had to make her mine, Oh baby, for all time. My, my, Lord, What's your name? What's that you're doin' me, My sweet baby? My, my, Lord, Where do you go? Don't you know You're driving me insane. I walked on over, And I asked her to dance. She said she would, And then she gave me that glance. I was held spellbound, By her big blue eyes. Good Lord knows, I couldn't tell her no lies. Led me on like a child She knew she was drivin' me wild I was playin' way out of my league Couldn't think straight I was so intrigued. Chorus It was a hot summer night At the high school dance. I was lookin' for some action Looking for romance. I saw a little queenie Struttin' down the hall. She was lookin' kinda sweet She was the belle o' the ball. I walked her home after the show. Got to her place and what do you know. Her mean ol' daddy's standing outside, Shotgun it his arms I just ran to hide. (Chorus) |

This was our second single release, and was released while we were away touring all over Europe. It's one of those perky little summer songs and because it went so fast no one had a clue what it was about. |

She's gone, and he cries.
He watches her jet plane, Fly across the sky. And I know he's wondering, Will he ever last the winter through. Why do best friends have to part? I know it isn't always so. But when they do, It only breaks your heart. Breaks your heart in two. (Chorus) And he loves her More than he knows. Doesn't have to say it It's a love that shows. And he loves her More than he knows. Doesn't have to say it It's a love that grows. We traced the length of time It took you to get home. And wondered did you think about The way of life you'd left behind. Or of the boy who stood Stood there with the broken heart. Just to see your smile Would make him come alive again. (Chorus) |
Sheilagh
Notes
This song was written for my best friend when we were just teenagers. He had met a Canadian girl who was on holidays in Virginia, and fallen in love with her. He knew when she left that he'd never see her again, and he was so low after she left that I wrote this song to cheer him up a bit. I wrote it as an acoustic song and this is a version I worked out with the band. |

Like "Absolutely Live Vol. I", the main part of this CD is from one concert. With "Absolutely Live Vol. I" the location was Norway. This time the recordings took place in Lille and Montpellier, France - originally released as "C'est La Vie".
Everything recorded on this CD is 100% live, and a lot of the songs were actually written on the road - as most of that year was spent on the road. The songs represent both sides of being on a long tour - the fast songs represent the hectic speedy moods you get into as you try to keep schedules that are often inhuman, and the slow songs represent the melancholic moods that break through sometimes as you miss the people and things that you love.
Again, like on "Absolutely Live Vol. I", some bonus tracks have been added - studio outtakes, live radio performances and concert performances - all previously unreleased material and all digitally re-mastered. There was a little more space left over after the main concert this time, leaving room for seven bonus tracks!
We hope that between these two releases we have managed to capture the essence of Barry's "Albatross years". From his first single "Alberta" on this collection to the last note of "Tempted" on Absolutely Live Vol. I" it's been an incredible journey. There is blood, sweat & tears all over these songs - and he wouldn't want it any other way!!
